MIDDLE POINT — The St. John’s ACME baseball team traveled west to Lincolnview to face its third straight Northwest Conference opponent. The result was the same as the Blue Jays fell to the Lancers 7-2 to remain winless on the summer season.
The Lancers (2-1) drew first blood by loading the bases in the bottom of the third on a single by Cole Schmersal and back-to-back walks to Austin Leeth and Dalton Schmersal. With the bags full, Derek Youtsey walked to force in the first run of the game. Tyler Richey followed with a single, driving in a pair of runs. After Jalen Roberts garnered the fourth walk of the inning, the Blue Jays made a pitching change, bringing young Josh Warnecke to the hill.
Warnecke got another Schmersal, Wyatt, to pop out for the first out. Keli Ralston drilled his second hit of the game to knock in Youtsey. On the play, Richey was gunned down at home plate trying to score. Warnecke escaped the jam when Overholt flew out to center field.
St. John’s (0-4) finally got runners into scoring position in the top of the fourth with hits by Jesse Ditto and Eric Vogt. A double steal by the runners resulted in a run for the Jays as Ditto came home on a passed ball. Leeth ended the threat with consecutive strikeouts as the Lancers led 4-1.

Lincolnview put the game away in the bottom of the inning with three more runs. Cole Schmersal led off with a walk and came home on a triple by Leeth. Another walk to Dalton Schmersal put runners on the corners with no outs. An overthrow to third by the St. John’s defense brought home Leeth for a 6-1 advantage. Richey’s double to left field ended the scoring for the game.
