VAN WERT — The Lincolnview girls golf team hosted the Lady Lancer Golf Invitational, which began last Monday, but was postponed and concluded on Friday. Seven teams were able to return to Hickory Sticks Golf Club with two individuals also playing to compete for the team title and individual medalist title.
The Lancer linksters dominated the field firing a team score of 385. They bested the second place Fort Recovery Indians (422) by 37 shots. The thirty-eight golfers vying for the individual title had sunny weather and wonderful golf conditions. Lincolnview junior Mikenna Klinger dominated the playing field by firing a great score of 1-under par. Klinger’s 71, which is now a new school and 18-hole tournament record, was highlighted by a double eagle on the par 5, 15th hole, as she holed out from 165 yards for the rare feat.
Klinger was steady on her round, as she posted two birdies to go along with four bogeys. Defiance senior Annebelle Weisgerber garnered runner-up medalist honors with a fine score of her own, as she posted a 78. Terra Walls from Parkway shot an 88 for third place with Kelly Stahl from Celina one shot behind with an 89. Four players posted scores of 93 to take individual honors five through eight. Emilee Phillips, Tori Vaughn, Gracie Gudakunst, and Haley McGillvary earned the honors in this particular order. Rachael Schroeder from Hicksville and Jonna Walls from Celina each shot 94 for ninth and tenth place.
Competing for the victorious Lancers included: Sophomore Makenzie Kraft (96), Sophomore Macala Ashbaugh (111), Sophomore McKenzie Davis (107) and Madison Shepherd (143).
