VAN WERT – Van Wert County court news for Wednesday, Jan. 3, 2018 Judge Martin Burchfield heard the following cases in Van Wert Common Pleas Court:

CHANGES OF PLEAS

Corey Davis, 25, of Van Wert, changed his plea to Guilty to Illegal manufacture of drugs, F1. Two other charges were dismissed for his plea. He waived the pre-sentence investigation and requested immediate sentencing. He was then sentenced to five years prison, credit for 37 days served, and ordered to pay court costs.

Sonny Metzger, 43, Van Wert, changed his plea to guilty to charges of aggravated trafficking of drugs, F4, aggravated possession of drugs, F5, permitting drug abuse, F5. The court ordered a pre-sentence investigation and set sentencing for Jan. 17, 2018 at 9 a.m.

Trinity Thurston, 38, Van Wert, changed his plea to guilty to domestic violence, M1, reduced from domestic violence, F4. Sentencing is set for Jan. 31, 2018 at 9 a.m.

VIOLATIONS

Elijah Staude, 20, Van Wert, denied violating his probation by failing to complete counseling at Westwood. Hearing is set for Jan. 9, 2018 at 10 a.m.

Zachary Schaeffer, 21, Delphos, admitted to violating his probation by testing positive for substances, and for failing to report for drug testing and for wearing a concealed device for circumventing drug tests when he did report. Sentenced to 180 days jail on first count with credit for 180 days served. Sentenced to 180 days jail on second count with credit for 6 days served.

SENTENCINGS

David Scott, 32, Van Wert, was charged with aggravated possession of drugs, F5, and sentenced to 138 days jail with credit for 38 already served.

Charles Thompson, 25, Paulding, was charged with aggravated possession of drugs, F5, and sentenced to 5 years community control, 60 days jail at later date, substance abuse assessment to be scheduled by Jan. 31, 2018 with follow up treatment, 3 years intensive probation, ordered to pay partial appointed counsel fees, monthly probation fee, and court costs.
